Elizabeth Cate Roede Barbee, MD, FACOG, practices with Gynecology & Laparoscopic Surgeons, P.C., in Raleigh, N.C. Dr. Elizabeth Barbee specializes in the evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence, and the repair of vaginal and uterine prolapse. She is trained in the techniques of endometrial ablation and advanced hysteroscopic procedures, and especially skilled in minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, and ovarian cysts.
Dr. Elizabeth Barbee attended medical school at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where she also received a master’s degree in public health. She completed her residency in OB/GYN at New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Cornell Campus. Her fellowship training was in urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery at UNC under the guidance of Dr. Ellen Wells and Dr. Tony Visco, two of the premiere urogynecologists in the Southeast.
A medical professional dedicated to her community, Dr. Barbee has served on the steering committee for the Loyalty Fund, helping to obtain pledges from graduating medical students for contributions to the Medical Foundation. She has volunteered as a “cancer buddy,” a program that matches UNC students with pediatric cancer patients. This program provides a friendly environment for the patients while they are in the clinic and in the hospital, as well as a support network for the parents. As a care provider for the Student Health Action Committee (SHAC), Dr. Barbee participated in a stunt run for a free clinic for local indigent patients. She has also served as flow coordinator for a community health initiative providing health care to an underserved rural community in North Carolina.
Among her professional activities, Dr. Barbee has published on the topic of ovarian cancer screening, has presented several grand rounds lectures for other physicians and has taught medical students and junior residents both on rounds and in a more formal didactic setting. She has participated in several clinical research trials and has been the featured speaker at medical schools across the state.
