Connecticut Childbirth & Women's Center
(203) 748-6000 ctbirthcenter.com
Cathy is the Midwife Director of the Connecticut Childbirth & Women's Center. She helped open the Center in 1997 and is proud to be in charge of the overall quality of midwifery care provided by herself and the birth center staff.
Cathy was called to midwifery following the midwife-assisted home birth of her first child. She felt so strongly that other women have an equally empowering and wonderful birthing experience that she decided to pursue a career as a midwife. She completed her training as a registered nurse at Western Connecticut State University and became certified as a Bradley Childbirth Educator. Cathy gained exceptional nursing experience caring for both high and low risk pregnant women while working for nearly nine years as a labor and delivery nurse and assistant nurse manager after her graduation. She eventually returned to school and obtained her midwifery certificate from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing (now Frontier Nursing University) in 1995 and her Masters of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Cathy started her midwifery career by joining a large hospital based midwifery practice and attending women and their families at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The practice was very busy and allowed her a wealth of experience in the care of birthing mothers, both high and low risk, as well gaining expanded experience in office gynecology, birth control and well woman care.
In 1997 Cathy returned to Danbury permanently to help open the Connecticut Childbirth & Women's Center with Drs. Kenneth Blau and Patricia Whitcombe. She has seen the practice grow from 5 to 6 births per month to 25 to 35 during exceptionally busy months and the midwifery staff from two midwives to five to accommodate the growth.
Cathy is a lifelong Danbury area resident and her family roots to the area stretch back many, many generations. She resides in Bethel with her husband Pete. They are parents to three grown children; Peter, Betsy and Stacy and are they beginning to welcome grandchildren. In fact she delivered her first grandson Benjamin in 2017.
When she is not busy at the Center, Cathy enjoys traveling and being outdoors hiking, kayaking, running and swimming. She also makes a pretty mean spinach quiche and cheesecake.
