Dr. Al Cohn is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, Jefferson County Medical Society, Alabama Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

Dr. Cohn received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 1995 and upon graduating cum laude was accepted into medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. While in medical school, he received a variety of notable accolades including being elected president of his medical class for all four years, being the recipient of a four-year academic medical-school scholarship, as well as various awards for service and leadership.
Upon graduation from medical school, he was accepted into the highly competitive combined general surgery/plastic surgery residency training program at the University of Chicago Hospital. While there, he received extensive training with an internationally recognized faculty focusing on the wide breadth of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Upon completion of his chief residency in 2006, Dr. Cohn went on to receive extra sub-specialty fellowship training in cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body with additional focus on advanced breast reconstruction, under the tutelage of his mentor (and friend), Dr. James Grotting.
Dr. Cohn has won awards for academic presentations given at local, regional, and national meetings and has been the young author and co-author of an extensive array of academic articles published in peer-reviewed plastic surgery publications. He has served as clinical faculty for surgical residents at Carraway Methodist Hospital and continues to serve as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.
